I'm not dead!

~~~~~
And then Denmark opened his mouth… “We want to wish you the best, little brother!”
Lukas placed his arm around Matthias’ neck, but otherwise did not choke him. It wasn’t exactly in a loving fashion, though… “Don’t mind the idiot, but we will help you anytime you need us.”
“Thank you,” Emil nodded. “(Y/n)? These are…I guess…your new uncles. Lukas, Matthias, Berwald, and Tino.” He motioned to each one, a tiny, awkward, and nervous smile barely lifting his lips. “I, um, guess that we will be your new family now.”
“If you need any help Little Brother,” Matthias swung an arm around Emil’s neck, “or want to give her to your awesome Big Bro here, then you know that weHE’LL—”
...Choking halfway avoided, Lukas was only pulling back at his tie a little bit to spare you the choking sounds. “Stupid Dane. He can take care of himself,” The Norwegian let go of the poor sap. “And little (Y/n).”
“Thank you,” Emil nodded. And then he noticed your shivering form in his arms, and gave another look to his weird family. “We’re going back to the hotel room. Can…I ask you guys to get something while I take care of her?”
“Of course!” And other such replies came quickly.
~~~~~

*Two-Hour Time-Skip brought to you by New Families!*

Of course Peter had to come to their hotel bedroom too. He followed Emil and the child back, trying to chat with (Y/n) on the way. On the down side, that meant that Emil would have to share a bed with the toddler.

On the up side, Peter kept her awake. He had long been a cold country (ICEland), but he also had his hot and warm sides too (volcanic activity). So, the knowledge of the cold side of Iceland's land included most illnesses related to it, and he knew that (Y/n) needed to get into a warm bath and clean clothes. They got a few funny looks in the hotel, but once they got to the room and bathroom Emil and Peter both realized how awkward this would be.

“Peter, can you run up to your room so she can have some clean clothes? Do you have any?”

“I have a superhero shirt that I bought with Matthias and Alfred, we were looking around and sho—”

“That’s good,” He nodded. “Can you go get that? I’ll help give her a bath.”

“On it,” The boy grinned and nodded, then ran off to his room. He had originally been sharing with Latvia, but wanted to sleep in here to get to know you. You two would pretty much be like cousins!

Iceland, on the other hand, was mortified to bathe a small child for pretty much the first time in his life. Puffins he was used to (Mr. Puffin was at home now), but children? Nuh-uh.

Especially once he got to see the scars.

“Mr. Emil?” You asked, slightly nervous now that he had stopped moving and was staring.

“Er…Sorry,” He shook his head. “I-I…was just looking at your battle wounds,” Iceland had, and had seen, scars on himself and his brothers. “Sorry,” He blushed and set you into the tub with warm water running from the shower nozzle. “Now, I’m going to give you a shower, alright? It’s better than a bath,” Because otherwise you’d be sitting in your own filth.

You nodded your consent, trusting him with this task.

Emil was quiet as he washed you, but wondered if you had ever had a real bath.

~~~~~
After dinner, and after Emil kicked everybody out, Peter settled down in bed as Emil showered. You were in the other bed, shivering slightly but with a full tummy and clean clothes.
“So (Y/n),” Peter grinned over at you. “What do you think of everything so far?”
“…I-I like ev-everybody…” You curled up and snuggled deeper under the blankets.
“Good!” He praised. “When I come over to visit we’re gonna play all kinds of fun games and eat food and just wait until I introduce you to all the Micronations, we’re going to have a blast together!”
Even you had to giggle at how excited and happy he sounded. “Th-that sounds fu-un!” Even if you didn’t know what micronations were.
“It will be! And back at home, he didn’t bring him, but Emil has this bird that’s called a puffin, and his name is Mr. Puffin! Real original, amiright?” He laughed at himself, just excited and maybe slightly loopy from fatigue and having a new younger sibling-cousin-like child to be a big brother/mentor towards.
And yet, his words made you happy as you began to drift off into a light sleep. You had been awake for such a long time, and so much had happened…it was all catching up to you…
“—And I have this dog, her name is Hanatamago and Hana for short, and Papa and I play games while Isi cooks on evening nights and you can totally come over and do that with Emil and I, and Papa too because he really isn’t as mean as everyone thinks he is he’s actually really really nice and recognizes me as a country and—”
He didn’t even realize you were asleep as Iceland came out of the bathroom, ready for bed. “Sea, what are you on about now?”
“I’m telling (Y/n) about how awesome her life is gonna be with us!”
Emil came over, and saw his newly adopted toddler cuddled into the blankets fast asleep. He chuckled, “Well, I think she fell asleep on you there,” He got under the covers with you though, and froze as you rolled over and nuzzled into his chest.
A very evident blush grew even darker as Peter “Aaaawwwed!”
“Sh-shut up!” He blushed. “Night, Sea.”
“Night, Ice.” The light was turned off.
“…You know we’re going to have to use our human names for a while, right?” Emil whispered this, rolling over and trying to keep you warm.
“Really? I was thinking we could just explain it to her early on. And then Norway could cast a spell or something so she’ll be a country like the rest of us!”
“…It doesn’t work that way!”
“How about an aging spell?”
“…Hm. Maybe. I mean, I haven’t been thinking of . . . (Y/n) . . . living like one of us.”
“What do you mean?” Sealand sat up, whispering slightly louder now. “Of course she has to! You know how fast time flies for regular people and us countries?! Icey, you’re older than me. You should know how fast it’ll be before she looks older than me. And then I won’t be her big brot--cousin anymore! And pretty soon, she’ll look older than you. And then older than Denmark. And then she’ll be and old woman, and then she’ll di—” He stopped himself, already choking up at the thought.
“N-No more! Okay, I get it!” Emil looked down at you. “I’ll ask Norway to. When she’s maybe your age.” He looked up, and made out Sealand’s body in the darkness shaking a little. “Hey. I’ll ask him, you know he has all of those magical friends and stuff. We both have seen him cast spells, he’ll do it.”
Sealand was silent.
Iceland took a deep breath. “…Why are you caring so much? I-I mean, I’ll take good care of her. I promise I will. And you guys will be a pretty good family and all. Right? (Y/n) chose my puffin, and she’s one of us now. Quit feeling all sad! She’s going to live a long and happy life with us!”
He could do it. He could take care of a child. Still, Iceland was sure Sealand had depressed himself. The boy had serious abandonment issues after Britain left him alone for twenty years, and he was probably obsessing over having a little sister at the meeting. The thought of his “little” sister/cousin growing older than he would and dying probably ate him up on the inside.
“Sea?...Hey, Sealand?”
Iceland heard him getting up, and scooted over when he felt the child trying to climb into bed beside him.
“…Okay. Just help keep (Y/n) warm too.” Really, Iceland didn’t mind. Sometimes this happened when they were rooming together, and he would just wake up with the younger country beside him the next morning. He knew the same thing happened with Fin and Sve.
“Mm,” He sniffed, and Emil did feel pretty bad. The boy was usually so happy, most didn’t even think he could get depressed. Peter wrapped an arm around the sleeping toddler, part of his hand touching Emil’s.
On the bright side, you stopped shivering with the extra body warmth. A small hand grabbed Sealand’s shirt and made him come closer, so you were literally packed between the two.
“…This is just for tonight!” Ice exclaimed, whisper-shouting.
“She’s just cold is all. I totally just did this because she was shivering really badly!”
“Sure.” Emil moved his arm so it was over both kids. “You’d better believe that I’ll be a great Pabbi for her.” A dad.
Hoo. Big words.
“You will be. You’ve always been pretty nice to me, so I’m sure she’ll like you.”
Iceland was silent. He watched the youngest Nordic stroke your hair gently…heh, older now. He was the middle child technically, Iceland had always been the youngest until Sealand came along. Emil felt a lot like an uncle towards the boy, but he guessed that he would really find out as time went along what he wanted to be for you.
For now, he snuggled the two children on his bed like a good guardian would.
~~~~~

*Time-skip brought to you by Puffins!*

Mr. Puffin squawked as you giggled and played with the toys the Nordics (and a few super nice countries!) had either sent or brought over. There was a stuffed goat from Peter, a few dolls from England, Romania, and Norway, a stuffed white dog from Tino and Berwald, and a Gameboy with various built-in games from Matthias. There were of course other gifts from various countries, and a tea set from Hong Kong sat on your dresser top. Everyone had been pretty supportive in the past few weeks as Emil helped you get into a healthy physical state, and you got used to a new home.

It was easier than expected. You were shy of course, and suffered through many nightmares, but your new family helped! All five Nordics, and Peter, had been very supportive of and kind to you. Emil was a bit shyer, and tended to let the others take charge in having fun or caring for you.

But, at the end of the day, he was the first one that you hugged and kissed goodnight.

“Miss (Y/n)?” Tino, the Finnish man, stuck his head inside of the bedroom. In his hand was a napkin, with some sweet-smelling treat tuck inside. “Do you want a cookie before Matthias and Emil eat them all?” He giggled.

“Yes please!” You hopped up and ran over to him, where he handed you the napkin—with two cookies tucked inside! “Thank you!”

“You are very welcome,” He smiled and ruffled your hair. “You are the only one that I will let have a cookie before dinner,” He winked and walked back out. After a few seconds you heard, “DENMARK PUT THOSE DOWN RIGHT NOW THAT’S HALF THE DAMN BATCH!”

 You couldn’t help but giggle as what could only be Matthias laughed, and you heard footsteps and a door slamming shut.

“GET BACK HERE!”

You giggled again, and almost peeked your head out the doorway to see before Berwald walked in.

Now, most people said that the Swedish man was incredibly intimidating and probably mean. Well, to certain people he was.

To you, he was just another fun uncle. “Hi!” You waved up at him with half a cookie hanging out of your mouth.

“Hello,” He knelt down to your eye level and cracked a small smile. “Do y’ know where Emil is?”

You shook your head no. “I haven’t see him all day, except at breakfast.”

“…Mm,” He looked slightly troubled at this. “If y’ see him, tell him t’ come see me.” The youngest Nordic had been disappearing a lot throughout the day ever since he brought you here.

“Yes sir!” You nodded.

“What h’ve you been doing all day?” He asked.

“Playing with the toys!” You beamed.

“By yourself?” The disbelief was hidden in his baritone voice.

“Uh-huh,” You nodded and turned back to the stuffed animals. “And sometimes Hana,” Hanatamago, the little white dog that was Berwald and Tino’s, was going between each member of the house for attention. “And Mr. Puffin!”

“Mm,” He nodded and pet the bird’s head. “I haven’t seen Peter either, have you?”

“No,” You shook your head. “I think he said something about going to town?”

Berwald’s lips became a thin line as he stood again. “I see…”

“Maybe Emil took him?”

“…Ja, that is probably right,” He sighed. Emil shouldn’t be running away every chance that he gets; the Swede needed to warn Lukas to have a talk with the man about that. “Do you need some company?” He asked, and smiled when you nodded shyly. “How about a game?”

You nodded again, and thought, and then shrugged. “Which one?”

“A new one,” Berwald knew that you had very little experience with real games. Peter had taught you “Pet Shop,” “Tag,” and “House,” and that was it. “How about I teach you Hide N’ Seek?”

“What’s that?” You asked.

Berwald smiled. “One person hides, and the other tries t’ find them.”

“What happens when they find the person?” You frowned. “I used to play that with my Old Father, but I didn’t like it.”

The old, old nation of Sweden froze at that. He thought fast, “Well…In this house it depends on who finds you. None of us will ever hurt you,” He said quickly, “but we have different reactions to finding the person hiding. For example,” He leaned forward and whispered, “Matthias always tickles the person in Hide and Seek.”

“Really?” You made a face.

“Mm,” Berwald grunted and nodded. “I do it t’ Tino, and Lukas does it to Emil too.”

You tried to imagine Emil sitting there laughing his butt off, but he had barely ever smiled around you and you couldn’t see it.

“But sometimes I pick up the person,” he picked you up, “and show them how much I love them. I don’t play Hide N’ Seek with everybody, you know.” It did not matter that he only ever played the game with Sealand and other Micronations or Finland, but still. He drew you in for a giant bear hug that made you giggle and squirm.

Lukas, who had been watching from the doorway, turned to go back to his bedroom with a troubled expression. If Emil didn’t take responsibility for you, then you would end up being closer to the other Nordics than the smaller nation himself. Norway not only worried about this, but also about what would happen when they all went back to their homes in place of this giant house.

Because if you could befriend the seemingly intimidating Sweden (let us all remember that YouTube legend PewDiePie came from this particular nation), and not Emil, there was something wrong with this.

~~~~~
*One-Week Time Skip brought to you by YouTube Legends*
Emil had to smile to himself as the child looked around his house. “It is different, I know,” He said as he rubbed her head. “You get used to it, my house isn’t all that big compared to the rest of their houses…” He was referring to the other nations.
“Wow…” She breathed. “It’s so pretty though!” (Y/n) looked up at him and grinned.
“…Heh,” Emil smiled. “I guess, to some people…” He set down his suitcase and took hers, “Let me show you your new room (Y/n), and this time you will be staying with me for a long, long time.”
“How long?”
“Forever,” He grinned, and lead her to the bedroom. “We can decorate it however you want, alright? How about we start by setting up places for your toys?”
“Okay!” She smiled shyly as he walked ahead and set the suitcase down.
As of right then, the bedroom was mostly bare. There was a bed with a black cover and white fuzzy sheets, a nightstand, a desk in the corner, a dresser, and a bare closet. For now Iceland set the toys and other belongings on the dresser and nightstand. He left a few of them on the bed for decoration, including that stuffed bunny she insisted on keeping. It was her mother’s she said, and did not want to let it go. What clothes they had bought were placed in the closet and dresser.
“There…all set,” Emil smiled down at her.
“Thank you!” (Y/n) blushed, and after a moment reached up her arms for a hug.
Emil smiled awkwardly and got down on his knee to give her one, but before she could fully wrap her arms around his neck he let go and got back up. It was a very fast hug. “Um…I’ll let you explore. You can go into any room that you want, if it’s unlocked,” After a moment he gave another awkward smile, patted her head, and turned to walk out the door.
“…Okay,” She said meekly, just happy to have been hugged.
~~~~~

*Several weeks later…*

It was a quiet night.

Lukas was staying over that week for basic business with his brother and the mythical creatures that gathered closer to the Auroras. The fairies were discussing, with him as a representative of the Aurora magical passage, the prospect of a spell prolonging human death. Something, say, like making you a part of Iceland with the countries so you would at least live for as long as he would. It was a type of magic that was rare, and only discussed when the person was important enough (or a newer country), so you would most likely need to be made into a new nation in order to live for as long as Iceland would. Or become the representative of a new island; Hawaii was always pumping out those. Either way, Lukas had a pretty good feeling that he could talk the Magic Elders into letting you live longer since this was a rare case.

Emil was sleeping in his room, pretending to be unaware of this meeting. He hated the magical creatures due to a long-time history of attracting bad creatures, such as the Gryla.

And you were having a nightmare, unaware of everything.

Now, this was not uncommon. You always had bad dreams and such after living the short life you had, and usually a Nordic was there to awaken you. Not always Emil. Emil did not always know what to do around you, and it was very evident that he did not feel comfortable getting so intimate with anyone like parenthood required. Even when you two were alone in the house, Mr. Puffin would be the one to fly into your room and snuggle up against you. Emil would rarely come up to get you, and only if you were crying loud enough or if the bird flew back to wake him up.

But tonight, it was needed. Very needed. You woke up crying, quite loudly, and had to force yourself to choke on these sobs to keep quiet. Despite being told it was okay, you hated waking anyone up from the past pain you would experience from your Old Father.

Now, Lukas was in the middle of discussing spells with the fairy circle when one of the Elders looked up from his scroll. “Noreg,” It whispered in a very raspy voice.

“Ja?” He asked.

The Elder, an ancient looking dwarf, said in Norwegian, “The child we speak of is in distress. You are dismissed so that we may discuss the matters at hand.”

“Can you sense her?” Norway stood immediately.

…I can hear her from upstairs, the vents carry sound,” The wise one said, and try to imagine a camera zooming out to reveal that they are in fact in Iceland’s basement. “Just go.”

Norway did.

A few minutes later, he found you in your room shivering on the bed. “(Y/n)?” Why wasn’t Iceland up?

You only whimpered and held out your arms.

But, Lukas did not see this. Why wasn’t Iceland awake? Norway had been all the way in the basement, and Emil had only been across the hall. He should have been able to hear you crying. So, that was where Lukas went: across the hall.

You kept your arms held out, crying harder.

“Emil,” He rapped on the door, and then a second time. “Open up. Emil!”

“What?” The younger man flipped on the light, and Lukas heard the bed creak as he stood. A few seconds later the door was opened.

Lukas gave him a dark look. “(Y/n) was crying. IS crying. Come here.”

“Shit,” He swore, and followed Lukas into your room…

…Where you were still crying.

“Does she have nightmares often?” Lukas asked.

“N-not…really?...” Iceland rubbed the back of his neck. "Um..."

“You don’t know?” Lukas had enough of this. Obviously Emil had not been taking proper care of you, and the older brother was not only disappointed and angry, but so frustrated that there was an entire world at your feet willing to take care of you while Emil was having an identity crisis with growing up himself by raising another person. “Have you at least told her that nobody is going to hurt her anymore?”

 “I-I know how to take care of her!”

Lukas sighed, quickly coming across the room to you and muttering to himself. “Obviously not, or you would have shut up and helped her.”

He picked you up, rubbing your back and shushing you.

Emil clenched and unclenched his fists with a furious blush as you cried into the Norwegian’s chest. “I know how to take care of her!”

“Shut up,” Lukas said softly, for your benefit, but with ice in his voice. “And lie down.”

“What?!” Emil took a step forward, but paused in surprise when Lukas sat himself down on the bed with you on his chest.

“Lie down,” The older man repeated. “I want to show you both something.” He shushed you again, rubbed your back, and looked up at Emil. “Come here.”

Emil relaxed his fists and didn’t take his eyes off of you two as he sat and settled down on the other side of the bed. “Show us what?”

“Here,” He pulled up the covers over your body. “No more fighting. It is scaring her. Ja?”

You were currently sniffling in his chest, and looked up with teary eyes.

Ja,” Emil agreed. He still was not sure where the hell Lukas was going with this.

“Lie down,” Lukas sat up with you in his arms still. “Just keep lying there, don’t sit up.” He kissed your forehead one last time before setting you on Emil’s chest. “Wrap your arms around her.”

They already were before he finished the sentence. “Yeah, I know how to hold her!”

“Then make sure she’s under the covers with you, it is cold out.”

“I know!” Emil whined as he got under the covers himself, and pulled you under with him.

You just sniffled, looking up at both men with wide, confused eyes. Frankly, all that you wanted was to be held. A fist unconsciously slipped out from under the covers to clutch the front of Emil’s shirt, making sure he didn’t go away. You had been crying forever, so this was both wanted and needed.

“Now wrap your arms around h—”

“Yeah, okay!” He huffed out, as he was already in the process of doing so.

“I am just making sure,” He consented. “Have you looked at your daughter, Little Brother?”

“Yes,” He said defensively, and made eye contact with you. “He’s being stupid, isn’t he?”

You were silent, only looking up at him in an odd way he had never seen before. It was vulnerable, and a little smile was tugging the ends of your lips up. Emil could only think of “sweet” as a description as you just looked at him.

“I think that I’m only stupid,” Lukas said dryly, “because I have let you two carry on like the way you have. I get that you do not want to be treated like a child Emil, but that doesn’t mean that all people are the same. Little (Y/n) has had a dark past, and she needs to be cared for. You need to start paying more attention to her needs. Don’t think. Just love her. It’s you who she should be looking up to most. It’s you who should hold her when she cries. Not me, or Sealand, or any one of us who steps in when you’re standing there looking lost. Learn how to act like an adult and care about someone who needs to be treated like a child. Trust goes two ways Little Brother, and both of you need to reach out. But you’re the mature one here, you need to help her,” With that, Lukas got up to leave the room. “Stay in here for the rest of the night so she isn’t scared,” Like he was sure you were. He left the room and shut the door softly behind him.

Emil was speechless and embarrassed. As soon as Lukas was gone, he looked down at you. “…So…I-I told you, right? That you can come to me when you’re scared?”

You nodded, sleepy now.

“H-have you been scared, (Y/n)?”

Slowly, you nodded again.

He sighed.

“Please don’t be mad,” You said quietly, voice quivering.

“I’m not mad, just…” He sighed again. “I’m…I don’t know. Why don’t you trust me?”

“…I don’t wanna wake you up when I have nightmares,” You said sadly. “My Other Father hurt me lots, and I know that you’re nicer, but I don’t wanna wake you up.”

“You know that nobody is going to hurt you anymore,” Emil got upset at this.  “You know that, I won’t let that happen to you! Not ever again! You can wake me up at all hours of the night and I won’t get mad, I promise!” He brought you closer to his face to kiss your cheek. “It doesn’t matter what happens, I will help and love you. Okay? But I need you to come to me so I can help you…I have always been isolated from the rest of the world. It is hard for me to open up to people, and I’m sorry for not being as strong as I should be around you. That will change, alright? You can tell me what you need to tell me, and I won’t hurt you.” He swore, “I will love you (Y/n), and I want you to love me too.”

You had begun to stare up at him in awe. Nobody had ever spoken to you like this before. Not ever. After a few seconds, you nodded. “I’ll love you, Papa. I’ll love you!”

“Good,” He sighed and kissed you again. “You can sleep with me after nightmares, or whenever you want,” Tucking you in was a given already at this point, and he had started reading bedtime stories to you, but Emil was thinking that maybe you would need to sleep with him on worse nights.

Finally, after a few more minutes, you were asleep on his chest.

Emil stayed up thinking about how he was going to open up more.

*Christmas Time-Skip brought to you by Sleepy Times!*

Hong Kong sure was weird.

“So, like,” The man picked up more Chinese firecrackers and placed them in the shopping cart, “You’ve never written a letter to Santa?”

“No,” You shook your head. You were placed in the shopping cart seat, and Emil was pushing you around the aisles as he went Christmas shopping (for fear of the Nordics catching him, you two were doing this Christmas shopping in Hong Kong—or Leon, as he told you to call him).

“We’re writing one when we get back to your house,” Emil promised. “It’s getting closer to Christmas and he needs to know what you want.”

“So he just gives us whatever we want?” You asked. “For free?”

“If you’ve been good,” Leon affirmed, and placed more firecrackers into the cart.

“Have I been good, Pabbi?” You asked Emil.

“Of course you have,” The Icelander was actually shocked about how good you had been all year. You had never lost your sweetness over the past year, always used your manners, and was always quiet. He knew that this probably came from the abusive past, but still—you were a blessing to his life. “Santa is going to be good to you this year.”

He had a bunch of stuff shipped to Norway’s house to keep it all hidden from you, and on top of Finland’s role as Santa this would be a very memorable first Christmas for you.

“Why hasn’t Santa come for you before?” Leon placed several packages of matchsticks into the cart.

You shrugged after a few moments. “Maybe the other man scared him away.” You smiled up at Emil, “I’m happy that you’re really nice to me Pabbi, cuz’ I’ve never met Santa before!”

Emil felt his chest swell with joy.

Leon smiled and chuckled as he looked at lighters. “Well, Santa comes when you sleep on Christmas night, so you never actually get to—OOF!”

Emil had elbowed him. “…You’re supposed to be asleep when you meet Santa. BUT, he does come and leaves presents for good children.”

“What about grown-ups?”

“Grown-ups too,” He smiled. “It’s a lot of fun for everybody, and on Christmas morning we all open presents together.”

“Emil gets socks and ugly sweaters every year.”

“HEY! At least I don’t get a trashcan full of firecrackers like Yao does!”

“It’s Iggy’s turn this year for the firecrackers,” Leon huffed. “Artie has it coming this year for the twenty-year anniversary of my eyebrows.”

“What happened to them?” You asked innocently.

Leon actually blushed as Emil snickered. “Arthur…cursed…me. When he stopped being the boss of me my eyebrows became like all thick and stuff, so this year he deserves it.”

You just giggled. “I think you’re cute though!”

He sputtered and blushed as Emil snickered again. The Icelandic man was promptly elbowed.

“Let’s just keep shopping, Norge needs ugly sweaters from me,” Emil grumbled.

“Just give him whatever’s in your closet,” Leon grinned, and ran away to a different section of the store when Emil gave him a dark look.

You couldn’t help but giggle. Emil’s friends were weird…

*Another Christmas Time-Skip brought to you by Ugly Christmas Sweaters!*

“What do you mean you didn’t know what Christmas was?!” Your Uncle Denmark asked.

“How is that even possible?!” Sealand exclaimed.

Finland had already swooned.

Your shoulders had hunched down, and you took on a defensive position. “I-I think I heard of it, once . . . A-and Pabbi told me about it earlier this month…”

Otherwise, you had never celebrated Christmas. So? You looked at all of the presents beneath the large tree, the mixed names of the Nordics, Sealand, you, and Ladonia on each gift under it. You didn’t have much money from doing chores around the house, so you had made your present to everybody so no one was left out (even if they had been naughty). It was in your room, unwrapped because it was so fragile.

“Her other father,” Iceland picked you up and placed you on his lap on the couch, “was always drinking out. Did you honestly expect her to know what it was from that abusive home?”

“Well,” Came Sweden’s deep voice, “it is here now. I th’nk (Y/n) should op’n the first gift.” He handed you a gift wrapped in snowflake-themed paper. That was Sweden’s wrapping paper theme, what he used for his gifts to everyone.

Finland's (as well as Santa’s) was reindeer themed, Iceland’s was puffin (his real Puffin was on his head right now), Denmark plain red, Norway fairies, Sealand was newspaper (…he was still broke…), and Ladonia hadn’t really brought gifts. He had an unwrapped stuffed giraffe for you, an oven mitten for Finland, and a new glasses case for Sweden and that was it.

“No!” You said, blushing brightly. “I want—I want you all to open my gift to you first!” You ran into your room, and grabbed it.

The Nordics all “Awed!” at the sight of the unwrapped gift: it was a large picture of their family, hand-drawn. All by yourself! All were stick figures, but adorable nonetheless. You were in the middle with a (h/c) blob over your head, Iceland beside you with his silver hair and Mr. Puffin flying over his head. Norway was beside him with fairies circling his head, and Denmark with exaggerated hair standing straight on the top of his own head was beside him. On your other side was Sealand, his blue hat covering the few lines of yellow that served as blonde hair. Beside him was Finland, Sweden, and then Ladonia was surprised to see himself there. With a streak of green crayon over his black circle-face and everything.

“Why are you having me in the picture?”

“Because you’re a Nordic too,” You said, smiling at him.

His scowl dropped into a look of awe at your sweetness. You two hadn’t spent more than two afternoons together, and both involved playing with the Micro-Nations. Ladonia didn’t know that sometimes Sweden told you stories about raising the boy (nightmare stories, mind you, but he still loved the kid).

And right over everyone, even above Mr. Puffin, in crude four-year-old script (you had turned four at this point, apologies if your birthday is between December 25th and March, when the Prologue took place), was, “My NoRdiC FAmILy!”

“Oh (Y/n),” Tino cooed, picking you up in a hug. “This is so sweet and special!”

“So I guess that my fabulous hair has stuck with you, huh?” Denmark smiled.

“You got my hat right!” Sealand exclaimed.

“I r’lly love it, (Y/n).”

“…You remembered the fairies!”

“(Y/n), this is going above the mantle, okay?” Iceland not only smiled: he grinned. Grinned! “This means the world to us, my Licorice Stick. We’ll get it framed later, okay?” He wrapped an arm around you, and held the picture in the other hand as Sealand’s presents were passed around.

You loved your family, Emil above all, for saving and taking care of you. It was a dysfunctional family, but all in all they loved each other very much. You were welcomed and loved just like one of them immediately, and thanks to Norway’s magic, you would become a permanent part of the family for good.

“Holy crap, how did you get Fallout 4?!” Denmark held the game high in the air.

“Heh, yeah. America’s going to be visiting us pretty soon asking for his stolen game back,” Sealand laughed. "Play it while you can."

"Who says I was giving it back to him?"

Both Lukas and Emil opened their gifts at the same time to each other . . . And both deadpanned as they held up the exact same ugly Christmas sweater.

Finland took a picture.

You giggled. This was a great family, and a happy ending.

Hope you all enjoyed. :D It's been a while, so sorry if this seems a bit weird. BUT: Belarus/France will be up next. We'll see which one gets finished first, because I want to keep up a schedule with posts again. We'll see what happens. XP
